Native Plants Garden to Benefit Pollinators

Breaking Ground for Native Plants Garden

In December the Arboretum broke ground for a new native plants garden to demonstrate plants, trees, and shrubs that will grow well in coastal North Carolina. In addition, many of these plants attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The garden will be broken out into individual plots with different types of native plants, with walkways throughout the garden. The Native Plants Garden will be used to educate gardens about best practices for growing native plants and to provide a habitat for pollinators, which increasingly are threatened by loss of habitat, disease, and climate change.
