The Wedding Lawn:
The Arboretum Wedding Lawn is one of the most popular spots for ceremonies and receptions alike. With lots of sunshine and open space, many couples choose this area because of its picturesque location surrounded by trees and bordered by beautiful plants. A ceremony held here would allow plenty of room for an archway, aisle, and lots of guest seating space. Additionally, the Wedding Lawn can be easily transformed into a reception area with a generous spread that can accommodate an event tent for receptions.
The Wedding Gazebo is The Arboretum’s most popular ceremony location. It is situated directly to the side of the Wedding Lawn which creates the perfect space to accommodate for guests and an aisle. The Gazebo is surrounded by foliage and the entrance is framed by potted plants, creating an elegant look that many couples choose for the picturesque and convenient location. If you want your ceremony to have the feel of an English garden, Victorian cottage, enchanted forest or something else, the Wedding Gazebo is the perfect spot to add floral arrangements and garlands of any style. It’s the perfect wedding archway to make your own!
New Hanover County Arboretum has a multitude of open space and gardens perfect for your wedding ceremony, reception, cocktail party, and more. One popular area for small ceremonies is the wedding bridge which sits quaintly beside the pond area and extends into the stone peninsula. For smaller ceremonies, couples can stand on the picturesque red bridge or within the peninsula with guests seated around the outside edge of the pond. This makes for a beautiful and intimate ceremony on and around the pond area which is one of the most popular and picturesque water features in the arboretum.
The Woodland Garden is also a popular spot for larger ceremonies and/or receptions. Slightly more secluded and off the path than the Wedding Lawn, the Woodland Garden lawn is surrounded by beautiful tall trees that provide slightly more shading depending on the time of day and a wide, enclosing border of blooming plants. This lawn gives off a feel of enchanted forest and is another great choice for making your wedding fantasy come to life.
The Butterfly Garden Lawn, located across the pathway from the Wedding and Woodland Garden Lawns, provides plenty of open space for ceremonies and receptions as well, and is often popular for a cocktail party area or a space to provide entertainment and games.
Japanese Garden (small wedding ceremony):
The Japanese Garden is a tranquil area located in the furthest back corner of the arboretum— making it the perfect spot for a quiet and calm ceremony with nothing more than the sound of trickling water across the japanese pond’s waterfall feature. Couples may choose to stand on the wooden bridge crossing the creek during the ceremony or even near the Japanese Tea House for a more unique option. This area is filled with lush greenery and makes the perfect spot for a secluded and intimate ceremony.
